I did the sorting hat thing 5 times when it was on Pottermore over the years, and every time I was dubbed a Slytherin. I am immensely proud to be a cunning folker. It also happens to be my favourite character type – SO. Here we are. My top 5 Slytherinny books.

Six of Crows

Kaz Brekker is Slytherin through and through. The whole gang manipulate, lie and sneak their way into and out of trouble and they’re the epitome of cunning, even stooping to the level of their villain. They all have their secrets, but they’re all fiercely loyal to the few friends they have.

And I Darken

I’ve yet to read this but hell – if I haven’t heard of a more Slytherin princess! Brutal and wise, she’s had to learn to be ruthless to survive. My kinda woman. It’s still on my TBR and I cannot WAIT to read it.

Vicious

A story about supervillains where nobody is the hero, this novel blurs lines between what it is to be good and what defines bad – is it control? Is it power? Is it wanting revenge, even if it will earn your freedom? Victor isn’t necessarily a good person with his deep need for knowledge and ability, and what he’s done in the past isn’t really forgiveable – but he’s absolutely captivating in his drive to stop Eli and undoubtedly the best non-hero-saviour-protagonist I’ve read.

City of Saints and Thieves

I’m currently reading this, a story about a girl called Tina who’s lived on the streets of Kenya for four years and has built herself up as a thief to get back at the people whose empire is built on lies and corruption. It’s gripped me so far, and while she’s very much like a Gryffindor in places, it’s that quiet resolve and planning I admire about Tina.

The Dream Thieves

The second book in the Raven Cycle Trilogy follows Ronan, an angry boy into drag racing and self destruction, who can sneak into his own dreams and bring out whatever he imagines – even nightmares. It’s a Ronan Lynch book. And Ronan Lynch is a Slytherin. Fight me.
